Bauchi 's APC supporters defect to PDP, burn brooms

On Tuesday 5 February at least 10,000 proponents of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and other political parties in Bauchi defected to the People ' s Democratic Party (PDP).




 During the PDP 's presidential flag campaign at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Memorial Stadium, the defectors were led by former deputy governor, Sagir Amenu Saleh. It is gathered that the decamped while announcing their defeat, stated that while they were in the ruling party, they had gained nothing. Heaps of brooms-the symbol of the APC-were publicly burnt. Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe has received the defectors to the PDP, who is also the zonal coordinator for the presidential campaign. In his determination to win the elections, the governor assured them of vital roles in the party. Speaking also on the occasion, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, director general of state PDP governorship campaigns, assured the defectors to be taken up in the scheme of things, stating that at this moment of camps they are important for the PDP. Electors were disillusioned by the poor performance of the APC in the state. In the meantime, it was previously reported that the APC lost the speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abdulmumini Bala Fanti, two other legislators and a senatorial aspirant to the People's Redemption Party (PRP). Ibrahim Bello Katagum and Yusuf C Nuhu, the elected representatives of the Toro Federal electoral division on the APC platform, were identified as the legislators that defect in the PRP. The defeat for the legislators was confirmed by Alhaji Shehu Barau Ningi, the president of the Bauchi state PRP.
